Resumen

This chapter analyzes the experiences of verbal, labor, and sexual harassment that the 50 female social scientists interviewed in Chile faced in their work in scientific and higher education institutions in this country. It aims to describe these dynamics, showing how they configure environments characterized by the naturalization of gender-based violence. It also seeks to establish the typologies of these aggressions and the mechanisms that allow their manifestation and/or reproduction and to identify the impacts they have on the physical and psychological health of women. The chapter contextualizes the debates by discussing Chilean legal frameworks for the concepts of gender-based violence and work harassment. By drawing on the women’s testimonies, we will identify five types of verbal harassment that will be analyzed, as well as the expressions of sexual harassment. In addition, gender violence exercised by women will be addressed. The closing section summarizes the main conclusions of the chapter.
