Epilogue

This section returns to the central points of the book, highlighting the intersubjective challenges of the research that gave rise to the volume and the interpellant nature of the entire analysis carried out. It discusses the narrative and analytical difficulties of putting together the diverse voices of female social scientists on their intersectional experiences of gender-based violence and inequality in Chilean academia. The chapter also analyzes the close relationship shared by the research team and the interviewees, the interconnection with their stories, and observes how the collective learning in the research process posed interpretative defiance. Recognizing these collective ties between female social scientists—the possibility to bring our/their voices together—helped to identify, name, and make visible not only the practices of gender-based inequality in the universities but also our own strategies of resistance. This analysis raises many unsolved questions that could guide ongoing and future collective efforts. Thus, this chapter raises many inquiries for new research and political debates: What kind of academia do we want to build? How should we redefine our workspaces in the universities to improve equality? What are our positions in such processes? Should female academics fight for leadership positions to improve the necessary changes?
