Resumen
Urban wetlands have been enshrined in Chile by Law No. 21,202. The relevance of this work is related to the idea that the communalization of those can improve the conditions for their recognition, management and control by local communities, and thus limit litigation and empower them, promote the autonomy of municipalities and the legitimacy of their authorities, through citizen participation in the development and monitoring of the implementation of the general ordinances of urban wetlands. The analysis of the progress and challenges faced by Chilean local communities allows us to affirm, in the light of some relevant foreign experiences, that urban wetlands could constitute in the near future, the first true conceptual and practical application of the notion of green urban commons in Chile.
