Abstract
Research in educational communities has migrated to virtuality because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Photo-provocation or photo-elicitation is a visual and verbal technique used in research with adolescents. This paper describes the conditions of applying photo provocations to secondary students in the Metropolitan Region of Chile. It reviews the theoretical-methodological orientations of the technique, the production of virtual visual and textual data, and the discussions/conclusions of using the technique with 180 students in the Research and Development Project CIP2019013 are reviewed. The findings show that while photo-provocation with young people is not without its difficulties, its application allows multiple varied voices to be heard and shared, many of whom too often lack a platform in virtual education. The implications of the careful, critical, and conscientious application of this technique can contribute to understanding adolescents’ perceptions of their wellbeing and other issues that affect them.
