Abstract

The two Jahn-Teller systems T1-(+2) and E- are studied in the strong-coupling limit. Two methods are used: the first depends on Glauber states to represent the displaced oscillators, the second involves a separation of the vibrational coordinates from the rotational coordinates that are associated with the spatial degeneracies of the systems. The analysis for T1-(+2) is described in detail; that for E- is summarized. The distribution of the angular momentum states among the oscillator levels of the T1-(+2) system is specified. Analytical expressions are given for Ham factors, for relative absorption intensities, and for the energies of the levels in the region near the strong-coupling limit.
