Abstract
The importance of Claudio Antón de Luzuriaga for Spanish Law is undeniable: Minister of State, magistrate and precursor of civil codification in Spain, is expressly indicated by García Goyena as the author of titles XIX and XX of Book III, of the draft Spanish Civil Code of 1851, referring to mortgages and public real estate registration, respectively. However, it is more than that for the foundation of the Chilean real estate registry system, since many regulations of those two titles served as the basis for the drafting of the Regulation for the Office of the Chilean Real Estate Registry dating from 1857, a work that in our country we attribute the jurist, judge and politician José Alejo Valenzuela. In the present work, we value the extent of the contributions and the way in which those influenced the creation of the system, from a historical and critical perspective.
