A misidentified RR Lyrae variable star in omega Centauri

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Omega Centauri = NGC 5139 is one of the objects with the highest known numbers of RR Lyrae stars, and as such, it represents an excellent laboratory for studies of these stars. Here we report near-infrared time-series photometry for Omega Cen, which has allowed us to conclusively establish, contrary to claims in the recent literature, that two previously reported RR Lyrae stars in the cluster are indeed different objects, in spite of their remarkably similar pulsation properties....
