Katherine Becerra Valdivia is a lawyer and holds a PhD in Political Science. She is currently the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law and Humanities at Universidad Central de Chile. Her research focuses on legal pluralism, contemporary Latin American constitutionalism, and critical socio-legal studies, with particular attention to the recognition of new legal subjects, interculturality, and justice in contexts of inequality. She is the principal investigator of a Fondecyt Initiation Project on Legal Pluralism in Chile and Latin America, and a national associate researcher in a FOVI project on socio-legal studies. Her work combines an interdisciplinary theoretical approach with a practical orientation toward the challenges of democracy and intercultural justice in Latin America.

Research Interests

Legal pluralism and interculturality: study of the coexistence and articulation between state normative systems and Indigenous peoples’ normative orders in Latin America. Contemporary Latin American constitutionalism: constitutional transformations and the recognition of collective rights, rights of nature, and Indigenous peoples’ rights. Critical socio-legal studies: analysis of the relationship between law, inequality, and exclusion in Latin American contexts.
