Personal profile

Jörg Alfred Stippel is a German lawyer and Doctor of Law from the University of Bremen, Germany. He has worked as an advisor to the Bolivian Congress and has led German technical cooperation projects (GIZ) in Chile and Liberia. He served as a researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights in Vienna, as part of the team of former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Manfred Nowak. He has been an advisor to the National Ombudsman in Ecuador and a consultant to the UNDP for the drafting of the Criminal Code in Bolivia. He promoted the development of manuals on ‘Defending Yourself from Prison’ in Chile, Uruguay and Ecuador and published books and articles on judicial reform, access to justice and prison reform. He currently works as a researcher at the Central University of Chile.
