Personal profile

Medical Technologist with an MSc in Microbiology and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He completed his doctoral thesis at Queen Mary University of London, England. The Regular Fondecyt program focuses on testing the effectiveness of synthetic compounds as non-antibiotic antimicrobials. These compounds act in situ, as they must be activated by light, without altering the intestinal microbiota or other tissues. The mechanisms of pathogenicity of the Gram-negative bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae and the Gram-positive coccus Staphylococcus aureus are also studied through their transcriptional response to oxidative stress, phagocytosis, and exposure to sublethal photodynamic stress.
