Dr. Ana Millaleo Hernández is a sociologist (University ARCIS), with a Master’s in Gender and Cultural Studies and a PhD in Social Sciences (University of Chile). Her interdisciplinary research focuses on gender, sexuality, Mapuche women, intersectionality, and body-territory, combining sociology, anthropology, art, and history. She is currently a researcher and lecturer at Universidad Central de Chile, where she leads the Fondecyt Iniciación project WallmapuSex (2025–2027) on Mapuche women’s memory and knowledge related to lawen and sexual health. She also serves as co-investigator in the Fondecyt Regular project Wiñolnampülkafe (2022–2026) on Mapuche mobilities and territorialities. Her trajectory includes studies on ethnic cities, urban spatial practices, migration processes, and Mapuche women’s memories, addressing topics such as polygamy, sex-affective relations, music and identity, domestic work, and sexuality in Indigenous contexts. Her recent publications include articles in Periódicus, Revista Latinoamericana de Educación Inclusiva, Palimpsesto, DU&P, Estudios Atacameños, and Revista INVI.

Research Interests

Dr. Ana Millaleo Hernández’s main research lines focus on the intersections of gender, sexuality, and Indigenous peoples, with particular attention to the experiences and knowledge of Mapuche women. Her work examines body-territory as a space of memory and spirituality, as well as Mapuche mobilities and territorialities in urban contexts shaped by dispossession. She has also explored intersectionality in the field of labor, particularly domestic work and migration, and has engaged with art, music, and Mapuche identity as forms of cultural and political resistance.
