Organization profile

Organization profile

The Applied Biomedical Sciences Research Group (CiBiA-UCEN) conducts research in the fields of biological and chemical sciences, with direct applications in human health. Its work is structured around four convergent research lines: Food Sciences (FS), Molecular Microbiology and Photodynamics (MMP), Molecular Carcinogenesis (MC), and Computer-Aided Design of Bioactive Compounds and Chemosensors (CAD). This approach promotes an integrated framework that combines basic and applied research. Its main investigations focus on metabolic diseases, food safety, photodynamic therapy, antibiotic resistance, cancer, drug optimization, and biomedical sensor development.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  1. SDG 2 - Zero Hunger
    SDG 2 Zero Hunger
  2. SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being
SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being
  3. SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation
SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation
  4. SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
SDG 9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
  5. SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
